Preventative Dentistry
We are strong advocates of preventive dentistry to provide you with healthy teeth and gums that will last a lifetime. Prevention is the key to oral health. It refers to daily brushing and flossing, as well as regularly scheduled dental visits to catch any problems at an early stage. Many disorders of the mouth are degenerative, meaning they get worse with time – along with the cost of fixing the problem. Practicing good dental hygiene leads to a happier, healthier smile.
On your first visit to our office we will review your health history, perform a comprehensive exam begins with a radiograph of your entire mouth which allows us to examine your teeth, soft tissues as well as a cancer screening. Digital intraoral photos are often taken to assist us in locating areas that may need attention. Communication is important and your comfort is always our number one priority. We will work with you individually to create an effective treatment plan.
Sealants
This is used to fill in narrow grooves in a tooth that cannot be adequately cleaned by brushing. In some cases, the tooth structure has fine grooves or pits which accumulate plaque, not because the person doesn't brush, but because they're too narrow to allow even one bristle into them. These will develop cavities over time, and you don't want that. So the dentist will brush on a coating that seals the grooves and pits, making it possible to brush off all the plaque and keep your teeth healthy.
Flouride Treatment
Flouride strengthens tooth enamel and prevents tooth decay by hindering the growth of plaque-forming bacteria. Flouride also promotes remineralization, which aids in repairing early decay before the damage is even visible. Please discuss with our doctors to see if you need to have flouride treatment.
